Feyenoord
Feyenoord Rotterdam may not have won the most prizes of all Dutch clubs, but because of its mass following it is still regarded as the biggest force in the Low Countries' football. The Rotterdam team are on their way back to the top after some troubled seasons. Last season Feyenoord made some major investments and with success. Dutch masters Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Roy Makaay helped the team to lift the Dutch FA Cup. In the centenary season new coach Gertjan Verbeek and his players are eager to do as well in the Eredivisie as it has been too long ago that the Dutch giant won a national title.
Feyenoord was founded in 1908 and has since won a great amount of silverware. The team have won the European Cup once (1970), the UEFA Cup twice (1974 and 2002) and can boast 14 Dutch championships. Famous for their youth academy, through which players like Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Arsenal's Robin van Persie and Real Madrid-star Royston Drenthe surfaced, the side nowadays once again depends on a combination of home grown players such as Jonathan de Guzman and very experienced Dutch internationals such as Roy Makaay, Denny Landzaat and Tim De Cler. The fanatic Feyenoord fans also count on talented youngsters like newly signed Karim El Ahmadi, and hope to see other top talents strengthening the squad over the summer.
The Feyenoord Jubilee Tournament will provide Verbeek and his team with an excellent opportunity to test themselves against legendary opponents Borussia Dortmund and Celtic.
