Celtic
Celtic FC is probably one of the biggest and best known teams of British football. And while main rival Rangers may have won the Scottish League more often, Celtic remain the only Scottish team to ever lift the European Champions Cup. In fact, in 1967 they were the first Northern European team to win that trophy at all, as it had previously been the preserve of Italian, Portuguese and Spanish clubs. Perhaps it is one of the reasons behind their phenomenal fan base which has been estimated at nearly 10 million fans worldwide!
At the Feyenoord Jubilee Tournament Celtic will play Tottenham Hotspur in a true Battle of Britain on Friday, and then play hosts Feyenoord on Sunday. The Scottish and Dutch met before in the 1970 final of the Champions' Cup. After their 1967 win in Lisbon, Celtic were favourites to win, but after extra time Feyenoord prevailed. Nevertheless, the Milan encounter was a highlight in the history of both clubs as fans fraternised amicably on the Duomo square. Since then, there is a historical link between the Hoops and Feyenoord that has only been strengthened by players and coaches who worked with both teams like Henrik Larsson, Wim Jansen, Regi Blinker, Bob Petta and Evander Sno.
With the likes of Shunsuke Nakamura, Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, Adam Boruc and Stephen McManus in the current squad, Celtic will bring a host of great players to Rotterdam. The presence of the loyal and massive legion of Bhoys fans will surely add some extra flavour to the Feyenoord centenary celebrations.
